Difference Between SSD And SSI
There are actually two types of Social Security benefits available: Social Security Disability (SSD) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI). People who do not qualify for SSD may qualify for SSI. At Marsh & Mittas, our lawyers can determine which type of benefits are appropriate in your case and help you pursue those benefits.
The Difference Between SSD And SSI
In terms of Social Security qualification, SSD requires that you have worked and paid into Social Security for a certain number of years. However, SSI benefits are not based on years worked and you are not required to have a work history.
In terms of benefits, the money paid out by SSD is based on the amount of Social Security earnings. The money paid out by SSI is based on need. There is a maximum federal benefit rate for SSI. As far as medical benefits go, SSI comes with automatic Medicaid eligibility, whereas SSD provides Medicare enrollment only after receiving two years of benefits.
From Applications To Appeals
After we determine whether you should pursue SSD or SSI, our lawyers will stand by your side from start to finish. We will help you gather the information necessary to complete your application. If you are denied SSD or SSI benefits, we will follow the appeals process. Our goal is to help you get the help you are entitled to.
